Dear friends and colleagues, dear muscle aficionados,
We are pleased to announce that the 53rd European Muscle Conference 2026 will take place in Vienna, Austria at the University of Vienna.
The scientific programme will cover a broad spectrum of muscle research, ranging from molecular structure to whole body physiology and pathophysiology, with a particular focus on current advances and future directions in the field.
Keeping with the EMC tradition, we aim to provide an inspiring environment that fosters both the meeting of experts in a wide range of specialist topics and interdisciplinary dialogue. We would also like to highlight the Young Investigators Symposium, organized by the ESMR-Early Careers Association.
This symposium will offer PhD students and early-stage postdocs the unique opportunity to present and discuss their work with peers and established researchers. It will take place on the morning before the official opening of the conference.
Keynote speakers and the full scientific programme will be announced in due course. We warmly invite you to join us in Vienna for the EMC 2026 and look forward to welcoming you for an exciting and inspiring meeting.

Call for Papers by Journal of Muscle Research and Cell Motility
The 53rd European Muscle Conference broadly focuses on muscle structure and mechanics, mechanisms of skeletal and cardiac myopathies, and innovations in disease modeling and -omics approaches.
The Journal of Muscle Research and Cell Motility will consider new research articles or review articles, or papers presented at the conference for inclusion in the journal.

About the European Muscle Conference
The European Society for Muscle Research (ESMR) was founded in 1971, and the first EMC meeting was organized in 1972 in Liege (Belgium).
Since then, annual meetings have been organized in almost every European country, as well as Israel. Despite the initial exponential growth and a continuing increase of interest from scientists outside Europe, the ESMR has maintained an informal atmosphere which promotes lively discussions between junior scientists, senior scientists, and other colleagues.
Many existing, and now EU-funded, networks have their roots in the ESMR, and maintain their relations via the annual meetings.
