Welcome to the University Biology Building (UBB)

The new University Biology Building (UBB) of the University of Vienna was opened in 2021, and designed to provide a cutting-edge environment for research and education, offering world-class facilities for students, faculty, and researchers alike.

Architecturally, the UBB combines sleek, functional design with sustainability, featuring expansive glass facades to maximize natural light, energy-efficient systems, and green spaces integrated into its structure. Its open and modular interiors foster collaboration and adaptability, accommodating the evolving needs of contemporary scientific research and education.

Located in the Vienna BioCenter, the UBB is part of a vibrant academic and research ecosystem. The Vienna BioCenter combines life science research and education for Viennese universities, research institutes, and biotech companies in a central location, creating opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.

The UBB is also home to parts of the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science (CeMESS).
